# Settings

Every option in refryt's Settings, tab by tab, with its default. Settings are saved in `settings.json` in the config folder (see [Privacy](https://refryt.top/privacy.html#stores) for where that is).

## Appearance

| Setting | What it does | Default |

| Mode | Follow the desktop, or stay dark or light. | System |
| Theme | The theme for each mode. One pick is remembered for dark and one for light. | Classic Dark / Classic Light |
| Your own themes | Opens the themes folder. See [Themes](https://refryt.top/themes.html). |  |
| Transparency | How much of the desktop shows through. | Off |
| Background blur | Blurs the desktop behind the window. Needs transparency, and a compositor or OS that supports it (Windows 11 22H2 or later on Windows). | On |
| Card outlines | A thin edge around each panel. | On |
| Corners | How rounded panels, covers and buttons are: Round, Soft or Sharp. | Round |
| Scroll fades | Fades lists out at their edges. Recommended with transparency. | Off |
| Adaptive header colour | Tints album and playlist headers to match the cover. | On |

## Playback

| Setting | What it does | Default |

| Audio quality | High (Opus, about 160 kbps), Medium (up to 128 kbps) or Low (smallest stream, for metered data). | High |
| Audio normaliser | Keeps the volume consistent between tracks, using YouTube's own loudness measurement. | Off |
| Autoplay | Plays similar songs when your queue ends. | On |
| Keep the songs you jump over | Playing a song further down Up next plays it now and keeps the songs before it. | Off |
| Save listening history | Adds what you play to your YouTube history. Only matters while signed in. | On |

## Library

| Setting | What it does | Default |

| Double-click to play | One click selects, two clicks play. Off, one click plays. | On |
| Playlist order | The order a playlist opens in: its own, or newest additions first. | The playlist's own |
| Order of homepage | Choose which sections come first on Home. |  |
| Strict Home order | Waits longer for Home so your top sections come first. Gives up after a few seconds. | Off |
| Local files | Folders to scan for music. They show up in Library → Local. | None |

## System

| Launch on startup | Opens refryt when you log in. Not in the Flatpak. | Off |
| Close to tray | Closing hides to the tray instead of quitting. On Wayland it minimises instead. Quit from the tray. | Off |
| Discord Rich Presence | Shows what you're playing on Discord. | Off |
| Synced lyrics from LRCLIB | Asks lrclib.net for lyrics with timing. Off, lyrics come from YouTube without it. | On |

## Account

Sign in, sign out and see whether the account has YouTube Premium, which downloads need. The ways to sign in are in [Using refryt](https://refryt.top/using.html#signing-in).

## About

| Setting | What it does | Default |

| Keyboard shortcuts | Every key refryt answers to. |  |
| Check for updates | Looks for a new release on GitHub when refryt starts. A release can be skipped, or put off for a day. | On |

## Command line

These flags change one run only and are never saved to your settings.

| Flag | What it does |
|---|---|
| `--scheme <name>` | Paint a theme for this run, e.g. `catppuccin-frappe`. Matched ignoring case, spaces, hyphens and accents. |
| `--opacity <level>` | Transparency for this run: `off`, `subtle`, `medium`, `strong`, or a number from 0 to 1.25. |
| `--no-blur` | No background blur, whatever Settings says. A way back in if blur crashes your session. |
| `--decorated` | Use the system's window frame instead of refryt's own. For X11 without a compositor, or window managers that ignore client-side decorations. |
| `--search "<query>"` | Start on a search. Add `--autoplay` to play its first result. |
| `--page <name>` | Start on a page: `home`, `explore`, `releases`, `charts`, `moods`, `history`, `library`, `settings` or `search`. |
| `--no-autoplay` | Turn Autoplay off for this run. |
| `--maximized` | Open the window maximised. |

In the Flatpak, pass them after the app id:
